I'm on Depo-Provera, so far it works great!

PS: You might have heard of it as "the shot".

* the femidom (but it's not that pleasant an experience!)
* the combined pill (oestrogen and progestogen)
* the mini pill (progestogen only; requires to be taken EXACTLY the same time every day - only for the organized)
* the diaphragm (needs to be used with spermicide)
* contraceptive injections

Oh, and I hope I don't need to say this but: even in conjunction with other birth control, a 16 year-old girl should ALWAYS use a condom. There's just nothing sexy about herpes and there's no cure for it...

If the boy has a latex allergy he can wear non-latex condoms.
If he "doesn't like" condoms, he should not expect to be allowed to put his willy somewhere that would get a girl pregnant...
Sorry to be blunt, but boys have to get used to condoms. The consequences of teenage pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections are too serious to be trivialized with excuses about the feel of a piece of rubber.

Rant over. Go enjoy sex.

Honestly, at 16 - its not worth the headache. This is the only time that you will make out like crazzzyy - and its great! Sex is confusing, its a big headache, and stress!! Once you get older you will wish for those days. :0)

Its important to understand the risk as well like STD'S. HPV is a big one - and studies are showing that condoms aren't even protecting from the virus..

There are:
CONDOMS ( choice 1 ALWAYS)
Birth control pills that have to be taken daily
Birth control Shot that needs to be given every 3 months or so
The Patch I think it needs to be changed once a week (worn on your body)
UDI Insert Implanted in your cervix by a doc
There are tons of spermicide jelly's that are not very effective

Don't rush yourself you have a wonderful life in front of you.

ALWAYS USE CONDOMS!! Not so much for the birth control aspect, but at sixteen, and I hate to generalize, but boys (yes boys...not men) just do not realize the severity of sex. In that age group A LOT of boys look at sex and/or the amount they get as a measurement of their manliness. Even guys who are committed are accused of beings "fags" or "homos" for not screwing a girl who is throwing it at him if you know what I mean, and for some guys that's enough to cheat. Bottom line: abstinence is easy to do when you're abstinent; once you've done it, it is so easy to do it again, and then again, and again, etc. so protect yourself against yourself and your own vices, ESPECIALLY if you have multiple partners OR even if you are committed to one. STD's DO NOT DISCRIMINATE. There is no such thing as "looking clean." HPV is so common and may not show symptoms but many HPV forms increase your chances for cervical cancer. If you are REALLY just concerned with the birth control aspect, which is CRAZY, but want to maintain the sensation of sex and worry about side effects of hormonal birth control or being able to keep up with them, then there are these "lambskin condoms" that do not protect against STDS but do prevent pregnancy, but they are much more expensive then regular condoms.

Don't do depo provera, there are horrible health risks a majority of women suffer because of being on that drug (google "depo provera lawsuit" there are lots of class action lawsuits again the makers of this drug).

Condom, the pill, the patch, the nuvaring.

Just remember NOTHING is 100%, any time you have sex you risk the chance of pregnancy. So if you are not ready for a baby, YOU ARE NOT ready for sex!

the depo can be given but isn't advised because of the links between it and bone density problems.

There are various types of contraceptive pill, but you need to go to a doctor for those, but the pill doesn't protect against STI's and infections. Only a condom does that - and thats only when used correctly.

You can go to your local Planned Parent Hood, they will give you a prescription for birth control pills and it is very very inexpensive, and confidental. It is better to be safe!!

birth control pills, you can buy them anywhere condoms are sold. They work just as well but if you are nervous at first you may want to use both to get used to not needing a condom. good luck!

Any of them. Go talk with your doctor and get on something. Condoms work great til they break, you need a backup plan.

pills (wouldn't trust a 16 yr old to take daily) or the patch

2007-12-17 16:32:39 · answer #10 · answered by Mean Carleen 7 · 1 0

well depending on how forgetful you are you can use the pill or the patch (Ortho Evra) looks like a huge fat *** nicotine patch on your arm back or *** but its really simple to use..and doesn't interfere wtih sex at all..

the patch is best for people who forget to take pills or hate to take pills daily..u put it on and keep it on for a week..then take it off and change patches, after the 3rd week u should have your PMS
