I am buying a house that has only a whirlpool tub in the master bathroom. I was hoping to change out the faucet and have it include a personal or hand shower so I don't have to always shower in the spare bathroom. Main thing is that I do not want to have to make any extra holes for the hand shower if possible. Would a roman tub faucet and hand shower suffice?

Let me clarify a little more, I don't intend to mount the shower head, just have it on a rest on the side of the faucet.

yeah, it might. Problem with be length of tube to shower head and pressure/flow to get much of anying out of the head once you raise it above to standard shower head height. Do you know how it is plumbed in the wall? Maybe you could cut into the wall, put in a diverter & pipes, and then a shower head. Wouldn't be all that messy unless you get into removing/replacing tiles.
