Use ratios:
Pole : pole shadow = Tree : tree shadow
8 ... x
-- = ---
4 .. 11
Cross multiply:
4x = 88
x = 88/4
x = 22
The tree is 22 feet tall.
(P.S. Notice the pole is twice as tall as its shadow and you should have the answer even quicker).

The item casts a shadow half as long as the object itself.
Therefore, the tree must be 22 feet (11 foot shadow x 2).

They will be similar triangles. A pole casts a shadow half its size. The tree will cast a shadow half its size. So the tree is 22 ft tall. You could set up a proportion when the numbers are more complicated.
8/4 = t/11
t=22

depends what time of the day we're talking and if the tree is placed next to the pole, in actual fact a tree can be but a few feet and cast a 12 foot shadow, so be more specific!

I'd assume 22 feet, as the shadow from the pole is equal to half of it's height.

One would assume 22 feet, but it all depends on the position of the sun.

ratio's equal
8:4
2:1
now you say that shadow is 11 feet, so therefore times both by eleven= 22:11
so pole is 22feet.
