Your Xbox will try to connect automatically to Live if you have it connected to your network.. I just bought an Xbox 360 Arcade and it was able to connect on its own without having to mess around with any of the network settings..

Basically when you are first setting it up it will have you create a gamertag.. then anytime when you sign in to that gamertag you will be connected to Xbox Live..

If you created a gamertag while the Xbox was offline you can try to convert it to a Live gamertag.. hit the Xbox Guide button on your controller.. the menu on the left hand side which flys out should have a Connect to Xbox Live option.. if your Xbox is connected to your internet you should be able to convert your gamertag.. otherwise you can create new Xbox Live gamertags..

When you are signed in to live you can go to the Xbox Live Marketplace for game demos, game content, movies and television shows.. or download Xbox Live Arcade games.. but you will probably need to buy the hard drive if you want to download a lot of stuff.. You can communicate with other gamers on your friends list and see what games they play..

Good luck..

connect your console online, navigate to the orange blade, select "Join Xbox Live", provide all of the info it asks for, create your gamer tag, and follow all of the instructions. You will be given a free month of xbox live Gold for being a new member. if you decide that you do not want to pay for the gold membership after your free month expires, the account will change into one of the free silver accounts.

the only thing you will lose is the ability to play games online with other players (the best part about live) if you do not pay for the gold membership.

Also, if you do decide xbox live is for you, you should reconsider buying the arcade version. The hard drive is a must if you want to utilize Live to its fullest (download content, movies, xbox live arcade games, demos, ....)

Yes, as long as you can get your xbox connected to the internet. Then you well go through the process of creating a gamer tag. (trust me, the one you want is probably already taken). Then it asks for a credit card and other information.

If the 360 is hooked up to the internet, it will connect to live automatically.

you may get a instantaneous adapter for the xbox, yet that's high priced (around one hundred$). yet another determination, is connecting a working laptop or laptop to the xbox and employing it as a instantaneous adapter with ICS (internet connection sharing) - seek youtube for it in case you have an pastime in that. yet another determination could properly be employing a swap, that's sort of a "station" for the cable, the place you could connect yet another cable from it on your laptop, yet paying for an prolonged ethernet cable is extra easy - you may get one in any regular laptop / game enthusiasts keep.
