Well i work in an arena in southern Alberta and we keep the ice at about 3/4 of an inch thick.
The best ice in the NHL is in Edmonton.
The worst would be in any of the cities in southern united states like Dallas, Phoenix, San Jose, Tampa Bay, ect. where the climate is too warm to maintain the ideal temperature for good ice.

The ice in an NHL arena is to be no less than 0.5" and no more than 1.0" thick

Edmonton has the best ice by far, followed closely by their Albertan cousins in Calgary.

The Nassau County Veterans Coliseum, is considered to be in the top 10. I've never heard them to have the worst.

Dallas and Phoenix have the worse from a climate standpoint, the ice is always shitty. However, for teams in 'hockey' climates. Mellon arena and MSG are far and away the worst.

I swear that it looks about 10 1/2 inches but my wife swears it more it's closer to 7.

Seriously though, Edmonton is said to have the best while I have heard the ice in Dallas can be brutal. Also, in Madison Square Garden, especially when it is not long after another event there like basketball.
