Manageable, means the network can take care of itself and is more human friendly. Humans use words to communicate, computers use numbers to communicate.

DNS = domain name service = it's an Internet based service that translates the name some human gave to a site into it's computer understandable IP address.

DHCP = dynamic host configuration protocol. Instead of having to statically assign an IP address to every IP device on your network, DHCP dynamically assigns the device an address from a pool of available addresses when the device boots up.

WINS = Windows Internet Name Service. It's similar to DNS, however it's local to your LAN so you can find computers on your LAN by their name instead of the cryptic Netbios addresses that Windows assigns to machines.
