Rubik's cube? What's that? :-D

There are several different solving methods. The most common and easiest to understand is the layer method where you solve the "top" layer, then the "middle" layer, then the "bottom" layer. The basic moves are relatively easy to memorize. If they aren't working that either means you don't have a complete set for solving (most likely the steps in the bottom layer), or you accidentally messed up one of the moves.

Another method is a variation on that but works on a single 2 x 2 cube first, then the other three sides.

Others use a method where they solve the corners first, then finish up with the middle slices.

And the last method I know about is a speed method that I can't describe well, but you can find more about if you search for "Speed Cubing".

Good luck, the cube is FUN!

there is a brand new method, much easier to solve! You don't actually need algorithms...
An algorithm is just a notation to write a movement. So, you can learn the movement without learning the notation system. Is like learning to play guitar without reading music sheets...

It is easier then it seems! This video shows in 18 min a new method using just one simple movement, and therefore no need for notation (of course you can write it if you want, but you don't need to):

basically, you look at one side and you do ri di r d either twice or 4 times until that corner is flipped. then you do a U turn and flip the next corner with ri di r d twice or 4 times. keep on doing this until all the corners are flipped.
