A lot of people who haven't seen this compare it to the god-awful The Fog. They are two totally different movies, the only thing similar is the actual mist in the town.

The Mist is so underrated and it deserves more attention. I must say the ending made me really feel for Thomas Jane's character.

It was pretty jarring in its style and direction, and yes it was rather suspenseful. Nevertheless, I found the ending (the one that my friends say "Blew them away") to be sort of empty. What was the freakin' point? Oh, the audience NOW feels awful for the character who did what he felt he had to do. But why? What does it mean? Existence is hopeless? What? There is no answer. Not that there needs to be a moral to the story, but did King and Darabont only want to smash the hero archetype? Dud. Kudos for having the guts to off the crazy Jesus lady in the head though. Didn't see that coming.

The movie kept me on the edge of my seat and the end made me so frusrated and mad. I feel that people are hugely mistaken to even compare the mist with the fog.

I agree totally under rated!

I read The Mist when it was first published, and always felt it would make a good movie if the right director got hold of it. And Jenny, why do you assume ghost writers? I've been reading him since the 1970's and he has a distinct style of writing. That's a really big insult, both to him and to his readers.

I think that his books are totally over-rated (a lot of ghost-writing obviously because no one can write that much) so I don't know why either, films or books, should deserve more attention.
@HipHopGrandma: A personal opinion shouldn't insult anyone, you go on read his books and be merry.
