My perspective will be a bit one sided as I have relatives there I made my first visit in 1999 and have been back several times to see that Italy is aware that it is good to preserve the good things of the past so they can be enjoyed for many generations to come.
historically more mature as:
You have St. Peters, The vatican Museum, the Coloseum, Venice St. Marks, Pisa, Luca, Bologna, Capri, Sorrento, Maarevelous beaches of Sicily, The Wines of the different regions also some very unique liqours, The Museums and shrines abound, The love of cars and good food.
a very good place to travel too!

Italy like Greece they were the inheritors of the tremendous art collection that was left behind from the Romans but luckily the Italians did not tear down to build a Jehovah caricature !

Venice was lovely, really special. Florence was delightful, and the Tuscan countryside really nice. I intend to return to Florence and maybe spend a couple of days in Siena. Pisa was basically a tourist trap, I won't be returning there. Rome was interesting, and I'd like to visit it again and see more of it, I didn't get a chance to go to the Via Appia. But my favourite place was Naples, just lovely and full of interesting surprises, and the people were just lovely .... but to be honest, I found the people everywhere in Italy (expect in Pisa) to be very very nice.

I had a great time in Rome and Florence. I would travel back to Italy in a heartbeat if I got the chance.
I did find it interesting that the sterotypes about Italian fashion seem to be true. Everybody dresses to impress almost all the time.

Wonderful country! Stunningly beautiful, great people, fantastic history, art and architecture, exquisite food, very drinkable wine and beautiful women! Apart from that, I hate the place ;-)

I love it.
The country is beautiful, and the food and wine are fantastic.
It is a shame the country is run by such a bunch of crooks.
