I am a 22 year old female and I was diagnosed with scoliosis @ 14, 2 years later I underwent surgury and had metal placed in my back to hold my spine together but all in all it was successful. although I have been having back pains its been manageable. but lately my fiance and I have been considering having a baby, but Im not to sure if I can carry for the whole 9 months, so I was wondering if anyone out there has any information or knows anyone who is in the same situation or similar. please help, I would love to give him his first child.

I've been following a couple of scoliosis sites for a few years and, although I haven't read all the messages, I can't say I've ever heard of a woman being unable to have a baby because of scoliosis.

Check with your doctor (as you would anyway), but I'm all but certain that you can have natural childbirth. There would have to be a pretty weird scoliosis situation before a doctor would not recommend having a baby.

you most deffinetely can, and surgery probably will have been helpful for having a baby- your spine is straighter and will make the natural birth process a little easier. however, some women find that with scoliosis it is easier to have a c-section. but yes you can get pregnant and the pregnancy will be the same except possible some back pain... sorry :(
good luck! i hope all goes well for you!

Definitely discuss this with your doctor before you start trying to conceive. While a lot of women with scoliosis can get through pregnancy with no particular difficulty, people with more severe curvature of the spine can have some serious problems. About half of women have back pain in pregnancy anyway, but if yours is currently so severe that it requires medication, that's something else to address with your doc.

It depends on the severity of your scoliosis. You should talk to your doctor. My step-sister had scoliosis, and against the doctor's orders had a child. The child was healthy, but the pregnancy was difficult.

i used to artwork for a chum who has scoliosis (one among basically 2 accepted situations in europe) and she or he had a infant 17 yrs in the past, so I say definite, it extremely is achieveable. yet i could propose that your wellness practitioner has a exact eye on you, in case of issues as she had achieved. From myself, i comprehend weight is yet another good reason to adhere close to to a medical expert, pregnant or not (i'm obese myself) good success!!
