If you like old architecture, sight-seeing, and such, you should probably go to Quebec City. It would be better still in February, when the winter carnival starts, but you can still see a lot of things and have that old European charm to the whole city. There is much more French prevalence in Quebec City, but most services (hotels, restaurants) are available in both French and English as they cater to tourists.

In Montreal, you will have much more of a nightlife, as well as the sightseeing, cobblestones in the Old Port, walks on Mount Royal, etc. Montreal's downtown core becomes a bustling nightlife crowd after 8PM on weekends and THU-FRI nights, so you could dance, go to a comedy club, or if you want to spice up the honeymoon, both of you can attend a "gentlmen's club" and then re-enact some of the dances later that evening in the hotel room {wink!}

Winter in Montreal and Quebec City can be quite snowy, cold, and windy. In December this year, we have already had two large snowfalls (12" or more each time) although this is uncharacteristic this early in the year.

One advantage Montreal has to Quebec City is that we have a subway and series of underground malls that you can shop and travel around town without having to step outside for too long periods.

If you are from Alberta or B.C., you don't need to be impressed with ski hills or such out here in Quebec, so my suggestion would be:

1) Do you want to relax, enjoy old world charm, and have a laid back romantic honeymoon? Go with Quebec City.

2) If you want to party hard, be in a more cosmopolitain city, and have much more things to do and see around town, go with Montreal.

Oh and keep in mind that Quebec City is only three hours away from Montreal, so you could take a day, drive to the other city, and see a few things that you might have wanted to see, then drive back. Another alternative is the VIA Rail train that runs daily between Quebec City and Montreal.

I live in the Toronto area myself, and have been to Montreal also. If you like the modern city type attractions, Toronto is definitely for you. There are tons of great places to eat, my favourite has to be the Panorama 51st floor. It's sooo romantic and reasonably priced, the entire floor is surrounded by glass overlooking the city, magnificent view! It'd be a great "honeymooner" dinner spot. Besides that, there are great markets and places to walk, you could make a whole day of walking and just seeing the sites. The shopping is exquisite, search the Eaton's centre and you'll know what I'm talking about, although I'm sure you've heard of it. Not only that but the entertainment district is so much fun! Great for a night out dancing/drinking/whatever you like to do. There's also Canada's Wonderland which is a must see, one of the best amusement parks in the world. There's a ferry that will take you over to Toronto Island as well which is beautiful. The Royal Ontario Museum is there as well as other museums which are great if you'd like to make a day of learning some canadian or art history :) Montreal does have a great charm as well, there are many old preserved areas of town which is like walking through a museum, great parks and pieces of history to see if that's what you're into. They have a lot of french pavillions going on during the summer which can be fun, just watch out for the french snobs! lol, but seriously, they can be very rude, that's the only downfall to Montreal. If you don't speak french, or even if you try to speak it but are bad at it, they will let you know about it. I was once downtown sitting on a park bench minding my own business and a woman just walked by me swearing in french staring me up and down for absolutely no reason! I'll never go back there just for that reason. Either way, I'd suggest Toronto for a honeymoon just because there is so many more things to do there, but decide for yourself! Good luck :)

I would personally choose Montreal as there is much more to do here than in Quebec City but I'll let you be the judge of it by supplying you with a couple of websites...

P.S. Where do you guys come from by the way? Just curious... And congratulations on the wedding too! Banff is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful...

Quebec is a wonderful place to go in the winter. If you want to visit a more quiet, european vibed city with a traditional scenery, I definately recommend it.

or, if you're more interested in a big city, with more attractions, more romantic restaurants and hotels, Montreal is where its at!
