lol..Well, whenever I go out to eat, I always leave tons of food on my plate for some reason. It's like between salads and appetizers, drinks, etc. by the time the main course comes, I'm done for..If i'm home, it depends how hungry I am. but, I usually clear the plate..lol..like today, i tore everything I ate UP!!! LOL..

Not to bring class into it, but it is a class thing. Most working-class people were reared to clean their plate. The Middle Class and the newly rich thought, wrongly, it showed their gentility to leave something (or waste food, rather) on the plate. The upper-middle class and upper classes (with the exclusion of the newly rich) follow the unpretentious practise of finishing what is on their plate. Common sense plays in, too. If you are out somewhere and someone puts down a filled plate in front of you that is unreasonably filled, no, you need not torture yourself to finish. But most good restaurants and caterers these days serve pretty standard amounts that are just about right for most people. If you serve yourself it is better (and perfectly correct) to take two or three smaller servings if you do not think that you can finish it. This is done by asking , "Would you like some potatoes?" Rater than, "Would you like MORE potatoes?", or, "Do have a third helping." There is just something less than gracious in telling someone, "Oh, do go on! Please have your seventh slice of roast beef!" My goodness! I thought that this was an etiquette section. I gave the correct answer yet apparently it is not about etiquette, but about personal views on what people think etiquette should be. I am so sorry that my correct answer surprised people here. But it does not actually surprise me. It is rather sad, actually, the comments. But carry on, you peasantry - carry on......

I love it when a man cleans his plate, but a true lady always leaves some behind. I was taught that you always give the last bite of something you really like to the one you love. So if the dish or whatever was super I'd feed you my last bite!!!
I think that's sexy!!!

I don't clean my plate anymore. Whatever I can't eat, I wrap up! I gave up my membership to the clean plate club.

ooh... most of the time I clear the whole plate.. if it weren't for manners, I'd probably lick it too... lol
sometimes, though, my eyes are bigger than my stomach and I OD and grab too much.. in that case I have to wrap the plate and clean it later..
