Columbus did many bad things to the natives and he killed almost all of them. He forced them to find gold where there was none, and if they did not find any Columbus would kill them. Columbus also forced the natives to become slaves, most of the natives died on their way to Spain. Columbus and his men threw the native’s corpses over the side of the boat and into the ocean. The natives that did not become slaves worked on plantations or mines where they too would die from the hard working conditions. The natives did nothing to deserve these harsh conditions; they greeted the Europeans to their land with open arms. He is not really a bad person, I believe nobody is. Everyone has good inside them, its just that some don't use it. He wasn't really bad though.

If you ask the native Americans that he killed. Yes. If you ask Europeans at the time. No. It all depends on your point of view. If it wasn't for Chris Columbo, no one would have tried to go west for a long time. Even though HE didn't realize that he found a new country, other people after him did. If it hadn't been for CC, it would have taken a few more generations until the Spanish decided to see what the Atlantic had in store. The Spanish might not have had such a vast American empire if Chirs Columo hadn't had the crazy ideas that he did. However, he did kill and enslave the natives. So yeah, I guess you could categorize him as a bad guy.

He wasn't a bad person, he just represents the thinking of that time.
He believed that the world wasn't flat like the maps said, so he set out to prove it. He did, but he was also mean to Indians, which is what any other Europeon would have done.
It didn't nessicarly make him bad, just very arrogant due to the amount of knowledge at that time.

Who would you rather blame for the discovery of the New World. Someone has to take the fall so I guess it would have to be ol' Chris.
Such a bad thing, discovering something that lead to new ways of life and new ideas. If you put all the history prof.'s back to back you would have an endless line of flakes.
Ask your Prof. if he is pissed at Chris personally or is he just pissed at being out of the caves of Europe?

The Queen of England gave him two choices: lead my men on a boat or go to jail for the rest of your life. When he discovered America the only people he was mean to were the Indians. When he went back to England the Queen had died and he was placed back into jail.

What makes him a bad person?
He followed his dreams and tried to do his job. He proved an important point to the world in showing that it was not flat, and that you could go to places that people had forgotten they could reach.
Just because he was a European and allowed for colonization of the Americas doesn't make him bad.

No i don't think it's right to call him bad. He was just a sailor. He gave world the chance to discover new lands, new cultures. Unfortunately, founders chose to destroy it.
If you want to call someone bad, that should be Cortez and the conquistadors, not the old captain.
