I bought a domain (WHICH I CANNOT CHANGE) on bravehost.net for a year. I'm currently pissed at how bravehost places ads on the site so the layout looks crappy.

I want to use GoDaddy- does it place ads on the sites? Anyways, after the domain expires, I want to buy the domain off of GoDaddy. Would this be possible? And does GoDaddy let me upload pages via FTP?

Please help me!

GoDaddy only has paid hosting and does not force ads or hijack traffic in any way.

You can transfer registrars for your domain name at any time; in fact, it makes much more sense to do this now, rather than later, as you don't want to let the domain lapse and perhaps get scooped up by a guy who buys expired domains in the hopes of jamming absent-minded Webmasters into paying a ransom to get the name back.

As a licensed registrar, Bravehost must honor your request to transfer a domain name to a new registrar (that's an ICANN rule). Bravehost also must either provide you with instructions on how to "unlock" your domain so it can be transferred to a new registrar, or must "unlock" your domain to allow for such a transfer, at any time you request them to do so.

Basically, you first contact Bravehost and get the domain unlocked. Then, you go to GoDaddy and register the same domain name, paying for the renewal.

Once that's done, you will likely receive some e-mails informing you of the registrar change. It may be that you need to respond to those e-mails to complete the process; read the messages carefully.

As a result, it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that you still have access to the e-mail address you used to register the domain name with Bravehost. If you do not, it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL you change your e-mail address with Bravehost BEFORE you initiate the change of registrar.

Yes.
