If they truly did then senior citizens wouldn't be allowed to marry, but they do! So the argument that marriage is all about family is null and void.

Historically, I'd say yes. The "whole point" of getting married was to have children and carry on the tradition of the society you're a part of. That way of thinking has definately continued, at least subconsciously, to today.

Yes, and same-sex couples who are involve in long term relationships. My partner and I will be together 13 years in March and we get ask all the time by gays, straights and everyone why we don't have children. We are both just interested in becoming parents.

Yes, this is just another point in favour of the opinion that state marriage is a societal artifact, leftover from the days when church and state were married themselves.

Yes. 2.5 kids and a dog (just kidding, I think that's the national average). I think its just natural progression, marriage, kids, death and so I think that's what society expects.

Absolutely. I think marriage is a three step process in this society.

Step 1: get engaged
Step 2: get married
Step 3: have kids and "settle down"

I don't think people take your marriage seriously unless you complete all three of those steps.
