I find a lot of people seem to take pleasure in sneering at our lord and those that believe. It's part of being a follower. It's the mildest form of persecution. However, a lot of people also genuinely believe we have got it wrong. I like to listen to the honest non believers and enjoy their questions but I don't get into arguments or take notice of insults. Mathew 7:6 illustrates the attitude of Christ on this matter

If they are really WISE men (or women), the same thing today as back then. The gold, frankincense, and myrrh were symbolic of their acknowledgment of WHO they came to see: *the GOLD signifies His deity as our Creator, the fact that Jesus Christ is "The Word made flesh"/"God manifest in the flesh" (John 1:14; 1 Timothy 3:16)
*the FRANKINCENSE signifies His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins as the ONLY atoning payment for our crimes against a holy God whose law we have ALL broken, where "Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor." (Ephesians 5:2)
*the MYRRH signifies His horrible suffering for our sins, where "his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men" as "he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed" as "we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." (Isaiah 52:14; 53:5; Hebrews 2:9)
What those "wise men from the east" did was "come to worship him" that was "born King of the Jews" (Matthew 2:2) Even though these were very "important" men (in the WORLD'S estimation), very rich and powerful, yet they HUMBLED THEMSELVES and acknowledged who the REAL Ruler was: JESUS CHRIST, THE KING OF GLORY!
He stated of Himself that He "is come to save that which was lost" (Matthew 18:11), and that is EVERY ONE OF US! Even as the apostle Paul declared: "There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one...There is no fear of God before their eyes....For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:10-23)
Yes, as the old saying goes, "Wise men still seek Him today!" And yet, so many are merely FOOLS and SATAN'S PAWNS, like MOST of those who answered this question! Acting so careless and so foolish about what matters most: THEIR CREATOR AND HIS GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT TO THEM: THE VERY SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF TO SAVE THEM FROM THEIR SINS AND THE WRATH TO COME!
Mock on if you want, but God loves you, and desires that you be FORGIVEN and know HIS LOVE! But go on despising and rejecting Him and His word, and one day you will face HIS WRATH IN JUDGMENT, as you find yourself CAST INTO HELL AND THE LAKE OF FIRE where you shall suffer the just punishment of Almighty God for all your sins and wickedness, seeing you rejected His free gift of GRACE!!! The choice is yours! Are you a "wise man", or A FOOL???
