Conservatism is an ideology that claims to espouse fiscal restraint and traditional, "moral" values (however those are defined within a given society or culture). Conservatives tend to be resistant to change and, instead, prefer things "the way they've always been."

The Republican Party is a right-of-center entity that (at least on face value) adheres to conservative politics and principles. However, in recent times, the GOP has been hijacked by rightwing extremists (nationalists, religious fanatics, etc.)

A republican (lower-case "r") form of government is one in which an elected person is chosen to represent his/her constituents.

On the opposite end, "left-wing" is used to describe those who adhere to liberal, progressive policies, those that welcome change.

Conservatives "right wing" are people who are trying to conserve something. "Political" conservatives are trying to conserve the political status quo. Do not confuse with "ecological conservatives" or "environmental" conservatives which have entirely different meanings as different status quos are involved. Because of the problems associated with getting people to support a status quo that is allowing two per cent to own most national and global wealth and the fact that conservatives always lose specific political fights it is essential for conservatives to be as deceptive as possible to confuse people about what they are really fighting for and preserve deniability for their shameful past, such as their support for slavery and opposition to all civil rights movements for women, blacks, and presently latinos. Another important reason to preserve the confusion is that most conservatives are religious reactionaries who are politically naive enough to believe they are fighting for universal moral principles that never change but in reality always are. "Republican" is the name of the liberal party that led the fight against the political status quo of the time to end slavery which was then defended by the "Democrat" party, then the conservatives. Since then the conservatives have taken over both parties.

They are an elitist, ruling class party that beileves the rich should eat the poor alive.

They beieve the Government should allow the rich to take everything from the poor and legally use them as slaves. Look at today's income disparity!

"Persoanl responsiobility of the individual" means its ok for the rich to use and discard the working class. Not very responsible. Or moral.

I apologize for CONSERV's propaganda.

I am an ex-Republican. The party is full of racists and closet cases.facT!

We believe that the Constitution of the United States is the best political charter yet created by men for governing themselves. It is our belief that the Constitution is designed to guarantee the free exercise of the inherent rights of the individual through strictly limiting the power of government.

We reaffirm our belief in the Declaration of Independence, and in particular the belief that our inherent rights are endowed by the Creator. We further believe that our liberties can remain secure only if government is so limited that it cannot infringe upon those rights.

• We believe that capitalism is the only economic system of our time that is compatible with political liberty. It has not only brought a higher standard of living to a greater number of people than any other economic system in the history of mankind; more important, it has been a decisive instrument in preserving freedom through maintaining private control of economic power and thus limiting the power of government.

• We believe that collectivism and capitalism are incompatible, and that when government competes with capitalism, it jeopardizes the natural economic growth of our society and the well-being and freedom of the citizenry.

• We believe that it is the responsibility of the individual citizen, whenever his inherent rights are threatened from within or without, to join together with other individuals to protect these rights, or, when they have been temporarily lost, to regain them.

• We believe that any responsible conservative organization must conduct itself within the framework of the Constitution; in pursuance of this belief we refuse to countenance any actions which conflict in any way with the traditions of the American political system.

• The American Conservative Union is created to realize these ends through the cooperation in responsible political action, of all Americans who cherish the principles upon which the Republic was founded.

• The American Conservative Union will welcome all Americans who are prepared to fight for the realization and preservation of these principles through political action at the local, state and national level.
