******The study indicates that there are some 32,500 persons homeless per day in Missouri, of which 37% are in the Gateway Region (12,025). [The Gateway Region includes primarily St. Louis City and St. Louis County.]
Most experts agree that there are between 8,000-10,000 homeless persons in St. Louis. http://stlouis.missouri.org/5yearstrategy/1999/ch3_homel.html

There are phone numbers listed on this site that you could call and see if they would give you an exact number

The place that knows the most about homeless in St. Louis is the St.Patrick Center. Its very difficult to count homeless. St. Louis county has very little information on their homeless population compared to St.Louis city but there is usually an effort to do a census of this population yearly.

Also, contact The New Life Evangelistic center
1411 locust Street St. Louis Mo. 1-314-421-3020.
They shelter around 225 homeless Men-Women-Children everynight. They have shelters across Mid America.

Check any Liberal web site. Of course the homeless problem goes away when a Democrat is President. You never heard of a homeless problem between 1992 and 2000
