Being a musician is a lonely existence. Musicians are traditionally regarded as the pawns in the commercial world of music entertainment. However, when "fans" decide to rip off a bands music as oppose to buying it out-right it really puts the musician at even more of a disadvantage. I'm not completely innocent myself... That being said, I feel that we are a world of freeloaders, (myself included) but that doesn't mean we don't feel bad about it in retrospect. Why would we pay for something if it's dangling in front of us with a big red tag that says: I'm convenient, I'm free, and no one will ever know that you indulged in petty lawlessness. How do we fix this?

I have for a long time been of the opinion that the music industry is upsidedown. Musicians record albums, then go on tour to promote the sales of the recorded material. I feel the music should be recorded to promote the artist. Live music is always 1000% better(unless the musicians arn't good or drunk or something like that). Being a musician is a fream job, if you dont love being one, maybe give the stage time to someone else. If you just want to write music & get paid for it, there are plenty of no talent pop stars out there for you to sell your soul to. Has anyone ever heard the Obo players in an orchestra complain about loosing $ because of illegal downloads? They are TRUE musicians.
That said, I do still buy cd's. Why? because I like to listen to all of an artists work, & decide what I do/dont like(& get to feel ripped off for paying $20 for a cd with only a few songs worth listening to). Downloads & concerts only offer the most popular stuff usually.

You can call this a rationalization if you like, but I don't agree with the current laws regarding intellectual property. I think it is necessary for the growth of humanity for thoughts, ideas, art and so forth to flow freely. I come to work everyday to make a living. I cannot turn in one report and then expect to make money off it everytime someone reads it. If some one wants to make a living as a musician, then get out there and work everyday for your super. That is what the rest of us do. Again, I realize I am way to the left in my thinking here, but this is the way I have always felt. Most of the money made by musicians is from performing anyway, profit from cd sales and what not end up in the hands of the industry lawyers. It's disgusting. I am excited to see how the internet is changing things and I celebrate the death of the recording industry.

I used to easily do criminal, yet then i found out how plenty money i replaced into spending doing that. i'm at close to 1000 money had i offered each and every thing from itunes, this is loopy. So now I purely obtain legally if this is a music i won't be able to locate on the different sites i might use. we could see, i've got offered 246 products from itunes. which remains plenty. Had I downloaded my different songs too, as I reported, it would be close to 1000 money.

You really don't understand the "why" of this??? Well, let me fill you in... money! Sometimes people want the music badly but don't have the $20. - $25. it takes to buy the cd. Come down to a reasonable price on cds and you may see this phenomena change. $10. per is a perfectly reasonable amount to charge for a cd. Music companies don't have to be so greedy!

i feel that the record companies drop the ball BIG time .... they should have been all over this when napster happened.
if you ask anyone whether they would like to pay 18.99 or nothing EVERY SINGLE ONE would say nothing. but i feel that if i am truly taken back by someones music i will go out and support them by purchasing there album. the only people who REALLY suffer from this is small time musicians. because they are still trying to make it.. but i couldn't care less whether or not 50 cent gets another 10 million dollars from people who just want to listen to him speak... i dont know man i could go on but im tired and need to smoke a joint :)

Thats not the case with everyone. If I'm a big fan I'll buy the album. If I only like one or two songs from a band that I'm not that inerested in otherwise, i'll download it illegally.
