If you think they should, what about european immigrants, no one would suspect them being illegal because of their skin color. Arizona is trying to make a law that says cops can ask, but isnt this taking a step backwards in society? I thought we were done judging people based on skin color.

A good point is brought up, they should be able to ask anyone and I actually agree with that I think people fear that no one is going to ask a light skin colored person because the assumption is that they are citizens. The scare here seems to be that we are going back to our old ways of discriminating and people do assume like crazy! Example: People are already assuming Im against it even though all I want is a conversation to see what others think. Im not sure what I think yet.

In normal circumstances the local police, (cops) don't ask if a subject is a citizen, as this up to the feds.
Now, get over the idea of not going according to skin color, example: this was tried some years ago where a criminal could not be described as being black, red, white or any other color when a crime was committed and they were looking for the perp. How are police supposed to look for anyone if the color of the skin, clothes and other features are eliminated?
It didn't work then, and it won't work now.
Asking if one is a citizen based on skin color is not going backwards, it is just doing their job.

I think that they should not be able to ask based on their skin color!!!!! That is just plain old racism!!!!! Honestly that kind of ticks me off. I am white but the fact that people are even considering doing that to people. Yeah people should not be here illegally but we should not be able to ask them that when they get pulled over. I think this is taking a HUGE step back wards.

are you sure that Arizona is making a law that says cops can ask based on skin color, or is it that they can ask no matter what your skin color is? Right now a lot of activists are wanting police to NOT be able to ask anyone...shouldn't they be able to able to ask ANYONE if they are a citizen or not?

heck yes. I assume all the Asians, Hispanics, Blacks and Whites don't belong here. Only the native Americans. Put the rest back on boats and ... oops, that would include me. Fortunately I left the US in 84 and never moved back.

Don't forget the 'people' in area 51. Send them back where they came from!

No, they should not be able to but they probably will anyway. The US has been going backwards for a long time and we are now the most incarcerated society in the world.

It may not be skin color that is giving cops the reason to ask, it may be an accent. If it is based on skin color that is really messed up and I do not think it is right at all.

No they shouldn't. That's why we have Border Patrol Agents. They need to hire more Border Patrol, instead of over working our officers.

If they do, then they should ask every Asian and European to. But you know that won't happen!

What are they suppose to base their questions on?
They are trained to do their job keeping many things in mind...not just skin color.
You are making a racial issue where there is none.

Make a point to be a part of the solution instead of part of the racial tension problem in this country.

Great idea. After that, let's start arresting people according to their eye color.
