This was not explained, and since it was announced in Parliament where there are always a lot of people ready to fault the govenment, I am wondering why.
What on earth does the US need with the UK Learner Drivers' Records and Bank details? Would we ever have kown that they collected this information if the loss of it had not been announced?
These recent occasions where information has been misplaced (or stolen) due to an administration "error" might mean that the criminals have infiltrated the government departments, perhaps.

Hey I can actually answer this one! YaY me!!
Under the guise of homeland security, the US can now do whatever the hell they want regardless of our constitutional rights!
Isn't it grand? They can even hold you in a federal prison for no apparent reason if they suspect you of any kind of terrorism involvement completely disregarding your constitiutional or miranda rights! Of course the type of involvement is up to the government's discretion.
I live in NY and I was there on 9/11. It's still wrong. Everything about the homeland security laws are wrong!
By the way Kamran, I'm not following you around, I was already here LOL

I would say the UK needs to be a little more careful with who they trust with their records. They seem to be lax in making sure personal info is secure.

Good point, we don't have call centres there do we? So it cannot be for cost. There is probably some nefarious reason for it.
