My boyfriends family tends to be a bit desperate to get circumcised before he gets much older. Hes approaching his mid 20s but Ive notice how when his penis is erected that veins run through the tip of the foreskin.

What happens if the cut the veins on his foreskin? Is this dangerous?

Yes, it's possible. Although pain cab be common for the first two weeks (especially the first) and it's recommended that he not have sex or masturbate for a month, as that can damage the healing of the wound.

If he's having a tight foreskin problem, he doesn't necessarily need circumcision. There are other alternative steps he can take instead, like stretching or using a cream to loosen up the skin. That's what I did and it worked for me:

Otherwise, circumcision should be his choice that he makes, not of his family. Circumcision has risks and some disadvantages, so he should take all that into consideration, too.

Circumcision has become less common. Circumcision rates were as high as 90% back in the 1960s and 1970s (that's partly why today's adults are so... brainwashed, I supposed you could say, about thinking that circumcision is better) but they have fallen to as low as 14% in some states. Here are the statistics:
http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/USA/staterates2004/

The USA is the last developed nation doing it to a large number of newborns without religious or medical needs. (Europeans, Latin Americans, Japanese, and most Australians, Canadians, and Asians don't circumcise):

Why?

In a medical study, it was found that females are more likely to hit orgasm with an uncircumcised man:
http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html

The lubricated foreskin (on the inside... like your eyelids) slides up and down during sex and masturbation to stimulate the head (which is why you don't hear of uncircumcised guys needing lube to masturbate).
http://www.cirp.org/pages/anat/

Studies have found that circumcision reduces sensitivity (this article also mentions how it has lost popularity in the USA in recent times):
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,285532,00.html

And despite being more sensitive, uncircumcised guys still last in the same six minute range (average) that circumcised guys do:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2005.00070.x

Circumcision makes masturbation more difficult:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06646.x

Which makes sense, that's how circumcision was promoted in the USA:
http://english.pravda.ru/science/health/27-03-2006/77873-circumcision-0

Increases erectile dysfunction rates:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=14979200&dopt=Abstract%7C

If too much skin is removed in circumcision, it can make the penis smaller since the penis needs some skin to expand during an erection:
http://drgreene.org/body.cfm?id=21&action=detail&ref=1125
http://www.altermd.com/Penis%20and%20Scrotal%20Surgery/buried_penis.htm

Circumcision does not completely stop penile cancer. The American Cancer Society has already confirmed the myth that circumcision = no cancer.
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_2X_Can_penile_cancer_be_prevented_35.asp

If circumcision did stop penile cancer, then penile cancer would not be more common in the USA (most circumcised adults) than in some European nations, where circumcision is not practiced other than for medical/religious reasons.
http://www.circumstitions.com/Cancer.html

And a new study found that circumcision does not reduce your chances to get HIV/AIDS. Unlike other studies, this one was done in a developed nation; the USA.

Yes, it's possible to be circumsized at any age, but as the first poster pointed out, the procedure is more painful as you get older, and the recovery takes longer. That's one of the major reasons why most mothers opt to have that performed at birth.

A doctor wouldn't cut the veins - just the associated skin and blood vessels contained within that patch of skin.

Is circumcision dangerous? Not really, but if you've gotten comfortable with your roger after all this time, you might want to carefully examine the reasons behind wanting the procedure in the first place. While you're at it, do a little web research to find out what alternatives and resources are available for those in your situation. Good luck!

He can be circumcised at any age. His doctor can advise him of the risks.

The obvious question is, what the hell business is it of your adult boyfriend's family whether he gets circumcised or not? If ever there was an issue that was 100% between an individual and his doctor, this is it. Of all the reasons in the world why an adult might want to be circumcised, the fact that his family wants him to doesn't even make the cut, if you'll pardon the expression.

SurfnYogaDood,

Kinda funny calling Jorge an broken record, you usually post the same exact thing. Where is the BioEssay? And do it again in a NY minute? And you forgot to tell him he has foreskin fetish.

As for the question:
Is there a medical reason for getting this done? I think he should decide if he likes his foreskin or not, and go from there.

it is possible to have a circumcision at any age, of course the older one gets, the more difficult the surgery and the recovery.

DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!! It can be done but why? It is the same as people in other counties that cut the hood off the clitoris of the female. SEXUAL MUTILATION. Decreased sensitivity, risk of infection, less pleasure for both of you etc. I wish that I could sue the hospital, the doctors, & my parents for having it done when I was a baby.

What right does your boyfriend's family have to desperately want him circumsized when he's in his MID-TWENTIES!?!
Of course there are veins in his foreskin, there are veins in all of the skin on the body.
Your boyfriend's family sound like a bunch of weirdos. Tell your boyfriend to grow a pair of balls and tell them its not their penis so leave him be!
