Roy Den Hollander is a New York lawyer who is suing night clubs. In a way I agree with him. I think that people need to realize that equality means equality no ifs and butts. If civil rights laws says its illegal and discrimination to pay women less than civil rights laws need to say its illegal and discrimination to require women to spend less for the same thing. Had it been that males were getting a discount the women in america especially the feminists would have fought against adamantly. They have been trying to break up the augusta club tradition of only having male members and not female members but they have never tried to destroyed the ladies night. This is hypocrisy.

Discrimination is discrimination- should they have White Nite to get whites to go to a rap club?

It's unfair- and possibly illegal- to make a man pay for something he may not want (like if he already has a girlfriend??)

It would be like making a child pay extra for a Chinese dinner because the restaurant serves kiddie ice cream- even if he doesn't get the ice cream, he is being forced to pay for something he hasn't used- gee, that would look mighty good in a courtroom!

It could look worse legally if you had a good lawyer....you did not technically pay to meet women- you paid for the drinks. In fact, if are considered to have paid for meeting women, it could technically be considered pimping on the part of the club.

This isn't really about discrimination. It's about trying to encourage women to come out and play so that the clubs aren't full of unfulfilled twenty-something men drinking their way into increasing aggression and spilling out into street fighting after closing time. Oh, and men often spend more money at the bar if they're buying expensive girlie drinks as well as beer. It's partly marketing, partly about club ambience.

If men genuinely find it offensive, then the solution is probably to introduce men's nights rather than banning ladies' nights. Of course, then there really could be problems with men getting too drunk and fighting!

Actually, I think it would be quite fun to have men's nights where the men got in free and the women paid. As a feminist I have no problem with that. And I think it would appeal to many women. I think it would change some of the dynamics of the dating rituals. How would men feel about going to a club knowing the women were there to ogle them and buy them drinks and size them up all evening? I think it might be a little exciting and also a little intimidating for many men.

The problem here is that Ladies night was primarily invented for MEN, not women. The idea is to get ladies to the bar so that men will come as well. And I think most men appreciate that. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. Besides, a hardcore feminist wouldn't be caught dead at Ladies Night not because of economic inequality, but because it was an attempt to herd women together to up the chances of getting laid. But that is something different all together.

OK. then they need to get rid of ALL student discounts, military discounts, and senior citizen discounts.

These things do not have ANYTHING to do with discrimination. Discrimination is being treated less of a human being because of your race or gender.....marketing ploys like "ladies nights" do not count as discrimination towards men. Sorry. It's just a way to get more women in the door.....men should be happy about that! I think Roy Den Hollander is a waste of tax payer dollars. And a cry baby.

Scott, you and Roy must be gay,far left, pink liberal and so on. This is America home of the FREE, land of BRAVE. As many have said its a free market. Which leads me to believe you gentlemen who agree with this nonsense. You don't have to go to these establishments. If you do, no-one says you have to by anyone a drink except for yourself. If you were smart you get the women to buy you a drink at what ever her discount is. Don't be a jerk give her the money. Take advantage of all aspects of this kind of marketing ploy. If not go hang out at the gay bars. Discrimination Please!

Absolutely it is discrimination, and it absolutely should be allowed. Discrimination is treating people differently based on their age, sex, nationality, race, religion, sexual preference, etc. If I have to pay a different cover and different prices based on my sex then it is NO different then charging a different cover and different drink prices for blacks as opposed to whites. Would anyone have a problem with that? I think that they would. Having said that, I think that the private property owner is completely within his rights to discriminate as he sees fit in order to maximize the number of people coming through his door and bellying up to the bar. Discrimination already happens, ask any group of ugly girls how long they wait in line and whether pretty girls wait at all. The simple truth of the matter is that in the bar/nightclub business booze makes you money. Guys drink a helluva lot more booze than women. But guys don't come for the booze, they come for the girls. Simple logic: more girls = more guys = more booze sold = more money. And space inside is limited. Ladies nights are discriminatory, but they're just good business. They're the bait for the booze hounds. That's just the way the world works.

This is called a FREE MARKET. The fact is that men come to bars to meet women. Young attractive women -- scratch that-- women who will have sex with them. These women don't have make a point to meet men. The men will come to them. You may not LIKE this, but anyone who has ever been young and attractive (or slutty -- and you know who you are) knows this is true.

These bars and night clubs are doing nothing more than drawing in the crowds the best way they know how. If the women come for the freebies the men will come for the *ahem* freebies too. That is a FACT.

There is a clear difference between marketing to a group and illegal discrimination. This is a plain attempt at exploitation for the purpose of cashing in. Anyone with two brain cells should be able to discern between marketing to attract customers and harmful discrimination.

I disgree. Any man who doesn't recognize the benefits of having more women packed into a nightclub than men must be gay. Who cares if we have to pay and they don't? A higher ratio of women means we all win.
