Yes. The extra weight of the engine over the drive wheels helps keep traction... and you also have less chance of oversteer with FWD.

That guy who says you "can't use chains on a front drive" is a moron and shouldn't be on the road in the first place. If he were right, then why the hell would they make chains specific to car brand/model (many FWD) in the first place?... he's just a rook from the city who doesn't know how to put them on correctly... or he's got his ride dropped so low with such gaudy wheels on it that chains just aren't an option... too fast, way too furious.

Conversely, putting chains on an AWD is a bad idea because of the stress that gets put on the traction control system.

Snow Chains For Honda Civic

I agree with the answers above. You can use chains for FWD vehicles, but you have to use chains made for Fwd such as cable chains. Make sure they fit good and are tight.
Always use tensioners.

Yes they do pull better because the weight of the engine is on the drive wheels. If you use chains, make sure that they're good and tight and none of the ends are loose or the ends will smack your fenders.

You CANNOT use chaines on FWD cars. I own a 94 Civic and I tried. And the steering components are like 1/2 from the tires. The chain gets snared on the steering parts.

If you are luck it will just rip the chains of the tire. If you are unlucky, it will screw up your steering components.

There are winter SNOW tires (not all season). The work very well.

Good Luck.
