Once again another record falls for Brett Farve...

He now has the most passing yards...61405? I believe...
Along with TD passes, INT's, games played straight...

Does this new record broken make him the greatest QB ever?

10+ to best answer.

No. Since most of those records were owned by Dan Marino previously, does that mean Dan Marino is the second-greatest QB ever? Hardly. Great QB play is determined not only by great regular season performances, but post-season performances as well. Joe Montana not only had great regular season stats, but clutch playoff performances as well (and before we start the "Well, he had Jerry Rice" arguments, consider Montana's playoff records BEFORE the 49ers drafted Rice...a 7-1 record, 3 trips to the NFC championship game, 2 Super Bowl appearances, 2 Super Bowl victories, and 2 Super Bowl MVP awards). Favre, for all his regular season greatness, has been above average in the playoffs (11-9 career record, with 26 interceptions). Congratulations to Favre for breaking a great record, but it's very hard to argue that he was better than Joe Montana, and thus, not the greatest ever.

Dave challenged us to name some of Favre's go-to receivers...sure, I'd be happy to. Sterling Sharpe (who broke Art Monk's single-season receiving record), Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman, Andre Rison, Mark Chmura (Pro Bowl tight end), Javon Walker, Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. Green Bay's mangement has always done a good job of finding talented wideouts for Favre.

Someone below me states that QBs from "the past" couldn't make the practice squads of today's NFL...you're aware that Montana and Favre were active players at the same time, right?

Dan Marino never had the complete teams that Montana and favre had. Marino was def the best quarterback ever. Yea he never got his ring. He also never had the help that montana and favre had. Marino virtually broke every passing record in the nfl books. If he had gotten a ring he would be without a doubt the best ever, and there wouldn't even be any arguments. And Marino retired after 16 seasons. I think favre just finished his 18th. So he even had more years. Even though favre sat a year, its not an excuse. Put it this way, if Marino got a ring, he would be the Michael Jordan of Football. His stats alone state that not only is he the best quarterback not to win the Super Bowl, but he is the best quarterback ever to play the game. And even though you cant take anything from brett favre, he def hurt his name a little by playing for the jets. He should have taken the money that the packers offered him to stay retired. Ten million sounds more than good enough to me to sit on the couch for the next ten years. Way better than the entire jets locker room blaming favre for not getting to the playoffs. the jets weren't a playoff team. And unless they make some fast hires, they wont be next year either. Thomas Jones should keep his mouth shut along with the whole locker room. Sorry Thomas, yout not as good as your brother julius, and you got your first pro bowl season this year. He should keep his mouth shut

3 MVP, 2 SB apperances, 1 SB ring, EVERY RECORD a QB can have ....YES he is the GREATEST QB, and quite possible all around player ever.

YES...he holds every major QB record now, looks to have 2 more good years left (health), I really do not see "FACE MEN" like Brady or Manning playing as long as him (they always seem to be auditioning for a spot on ESPN or the Fox booth.

Brett HAS played a number of years, so some records were bound to fall, but the fact he has played so long is a record also...he is NOT limping his way to these records you know...he is still the better option at QB for all but about 3 teams.

If you do not say he is the Greatest, thats fine, your opinion..but if you are the ones out there ripping him, saying he is "hurting" the team or he is selfish, then you are justa Favre Hater--and most likely a fan of one of those teams that has had 10-22 QBs since old #4 started for the PACKERS!!

Best ever is hard to determine. Brett is great and is breaking these records because he's great but he's also played so many years. There was nothing like Joe Montana in his prime. Those perfect 2 min drives to win games are amazing to watch. Who knows how today's great QB will stack up in the end. I don't think we can really claim anyone the greatest of all time. I go with Montana, Marino or Elway if I had to pick who I'd want if I could have anybody.

You forgot one record, most career wins as a starter.

I've noticed a lot of the answers are saying bart starr, or terry bradshaw, or unitas, etc. are the best ever. But what you fail to realize is - how would they hold up in todays game? People are bigger, stronger, faster, hit harder, etc.

I think Favre is ONE of the greatest. Not just because I'm a Packer fan either. Favre has always loved playing the game, he's played through a lot of adversity, and you can't deny what he's done on the field. Also, because his fathers death was made so public, deanna's cancer was made public, and other things like that, Favre's fans connect with him more. Nothing against the other great QB's in the league, but I don't think they have that with their fans

I love Brett Favre. I think the guy is amazing to be doing so well and I would love to see him win another Super Bowl, but there are a few records that belong to another QB that he does not have.
Super Bowl Records (Held by Joe Montana)
3 MVPS.
Most passing yards, career, 1,142
Most TD passes, career, 11
Most completions, career, 83
Highest passer rating, career, 127.8
Fewest Interceptions SB career - 0 (Montana is tied with 2 others)

I strongly believe that when it is all said and done, Brett Favre will be considered as one of the top three quarterbacks of all-time.

Earlier in his career he dominated games and that was why he won the MVP award three years in a row. Then later on his career, he was forced to make throws due to a shoddy team. He just tried to make plays for a team that didn’t have any playmakers. Now he has a great team and look at his numbers. Brett never lost it and is still a top-tier quarterback at the age of 38 years young.

Also, don't you think someone who holds ALL of the QB records should be considered not only as one of the greatest QBs of all-time, but one of the greatest football players of all-time?

How can you argue with stats? People have put Marino and Elway in that conversation, and they played 17 yrs, same as Favre this year. I don't understand why people would say it's only because he's played so long. If you look at stats, plus the way he plays the game, yes you could arguebly say he's the best QB to play the game.

The older QB's, most of what we have is stats and legend. People usually get bigger in legend than when they were in their own time. Granted there are some great past QB's, I'd believe Favre has played better than those of the 60's through today.

His records are coming because he played longer than everybody else.

His games started record is impressive but the TDs and Yards and even INTs is due to longevity not necessarily skill, good for him for being healthy enough and still liking the game enough to continue playing for so long.

Best ever? Not by a longshot.

Uh Dave, Sterling Sharpe, Donald Driver, Javon Walker, Bubba Franks, Mark Chmura, Robert Ferguson, Greg Jennings, James Jones

This makes him one of the Greatest QB's ever. Brett has had a great career, but he is like Johnny U. Both were cut from the team that originally drafted them. Both excelled in their era and led their teams to World Championships.

If I were a coach and my team was down by 4 with under 2 minutes left in the game, Brett would be one of my choices to lead my team to victory.
