It is usually a great honor to be "collared"! you should at least give it a try. Perhaps you could start with a collar that is NOT spiked - a training collar - just to get used to the feel of it. You could start with something cotton maybe?
Then after a night or two, move to a leather collar, then try out the spiked collar.
Perhaps you and your bf could strike a compromise - you will have 2 collars: one for sleeping (looser, smaller, less spikes etc) and one for "play" that has all the rings and spikes on it.

Its not bad, My ex BF was a real sweetie, he took a collar and sewed felt and padding on the inside for me, we both had one. But thats mostly because were both furs, so its common. But others wise its not bad, it can rub if you dont get a nice one.

I find some doberman pincher owners like there pets to wear them, but why you? If its vampires you fear, try garlic.
