with my beautiful Japanese girlfriend, people kept staring at us like we're from a different planet? This didn't happen until I moved to a certain region of the US but what's surprising is that the people staring were from a different variety of races. Is it just that certain parts of the US still aren't comfortable of seeing mixed people and/or mixed relationships?

Candace, the state I live in now isn't really known for its diversity but for the past few years a lot of people have been moving here from all over the country so now there are a small number of mixed people/couples in the area. Maybe its just not common yet.

Fred, you're kind of funny. But most people (friends) in the states say the opposite to me. They tell me why don't I get a hot American girl instead of some JP girl. I have to explain to them that its to difficult to explain why or how someone is attracted to someone. Preference in personality is a major factor for me also.

My son also has a Japanese girlfriend.
Maybe people are just wondering what you find interesting in each other and they don't realise they are staring.
I saw a young couple in Budapest, Hungary this past summer. He was a trendy looking red head and she was a trendy Japanese girl. I still remember them because they looked so cute together. He was helping her walk in the subway with her stillito heals on.

Different nationalities tend to be clannish. They stick to their own, especially the older ones. Are there many mixed couples in your area? If there are, you can rule out the 'uncomfortable' part. Maybe you ARE just too pretty for them! Ha ha! After all, we Japanese chicks are pretty cute! lol.

Maybe she is just way hotter than you, and people were wondering what she was doing with a guy like you? Here in New York, no one would look twice, unless she was very,very hot.
