I just bought an new flat screen tv, it says that you can connect your pc to the tv. Is the dvi just another name for the vga slot on the back of the pc? If not how would i get it to work if i dont have a dvi slot, is there an adapter i could use?

DVI is different from VGA, but the signals are pretty much the same if it is DVI-analog.

If you only have VGA on the back of your computer, you can get VGA to DVI adapters for a relatively low price.

If you have an HDMI connector on the back of the TV then you need to have a DVI or HDMI connector out from the PC. You can not convert VGA to HDMI.

Video cards that have DVI outputs are not that expensive, unless you want to get a high end card for gaming.

If you want to hook up your PC to the HDTV either the TV will have a D-sub (VGA) input or you need a cable from VGA out to DVI input. But most new video cards have DVI out from the PC if you have that you need a DVI to HDMI cable to hook up to the PC.
