If and when I have spare time. I am a beta tester for just about every antispyware/antivirus program in the world.
1. Nortons is the worse garbage in the world. And each an every year continues to get a lot more worse then the prior years. They fail to learn from experience.
2. Hugh resource hog that slow your PC down.
3. Fails to find the majority of viruses.
4. If found leave fragments of the virus behind.
5. Or just unable to kill at all.
6. When you or your mother decide to remove from Add/Remove you will only think that the program as been removed.
7. You are going to find that Nortons as left over 375 fragments glued to all your files/folders, registry and submsystem.
8. You will play hell trying to remove them as they cause conflict.
9. Symantec, (spelling) is also left behind in fragments.
10. If they gave me a life time free key, I would say thanks but no thanks. I don't need the pain or have my pc destroyed.

Reinstallation of windows surely remove all programes including 'Norton AV' handled by the O/S. So, before reinstalling any Windows OS, try to repair it from the Original Windows O/S CD. Because, repairing of Windows will not remove any programs. Before installing the Windows OS, atlease, take copy of your Documents (word, Excel, PP, etc) to a new folder or to a Writable CD, so that it can be reused. Best of Luck! Norton AV original edition is very good. But, the free edition is not so good compared to Avast Home edition.

I don't know that Norton is bad, just expensive. I have used the AVG free version for several years and been very satisfied. It is an easy download and updates every day.

Norton cost money and takes up a ton of space.
You can get AVG which is every bit as good for free.
We switched all of our company computers over 1.5 years ago and have had no problems and saved a lot of money.

Norton is fine now! I don't know if it is killing your computer, but probably slowing it down. You do have to pay to get new Virus updates. I would just have to wait until then. Tell them to get one that is free!

One thing you could do is just remove and not tell her. Another thing you could do is tell her that Norton Anti Virus doesn't block viruses. It is just a program that is useless. But I recommend just removing it and installing a anti virus of your choice.

Point out sites like these , but remember you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink ...
There really are no Pro's for Norton's product in my opinion :)

Wait until the subscription is about to expire, then remove it and replace with something else.
