China has a long history of human rights violations and Cuba seems to have fewer than the U.S. along with national health care and good cigars. Why do we support 1 communist and not another?

China holds our national debt and provides us with cheap goods so US companies don't have to pay middle class Americans a living wage.
It is clear who the friend of modern american conservatism is!

Because one is a member of the UN Security Council, and the other is not.
If we ever want to get stuff done through the UN, we have to be buddies with the ones running the show.
