LOL I know it's always the same thing, sick or not, when I go
in. I swear they are blind when I obviously am hardly able to
see straight. Even being wheeled in a wheelchair, that should
be a clue that something is very wrong with my picture. LOL.
The nurse usually says something like, "How are you today?" And so now I say, "well obviously, not too good or I
wouldn't be here!". Then she smiles. And wheels me on in.
Then my PA comes in later and she says, "Well what can I
do for you today?" Whether or not, she's asked for my return
visit, or if I'm there with a real sickness bugging me. I don't
think they ever look at your file anymore either. I'm always
asked about the meds I'm on, or the amount of insulin or
other things that are right at their fingertips. Or on their com-
puter screens also in the room. The only thing that goes well
without a hitch,is my getting on the scale LOL. Now that is
part of the ritual I can well do without LOL. But alas, in my
case, it tells her if I'm having any edema by increased weight
gain. So if I was really sneaky, I could splurge on something
sinfully delicious, and blame the weight gain on the edema
and not actual calorie intake LOL. Now who says there aren't
perks with having health issues LOL.
Well even tho I have a wierd dizzying flu right now, I am not
going in and having her look at me, and tell by my eyeballs I'm
sickly, and yet still say, "What can I do for you today?" If only I
could have the hutspah, to tell her, "Oh I thought I'd drop in and
get a lube and the free car wash. I may as well just get it all done before the new year!"
What a look I'd probably get from her, huh?

I have no idea. That's why I never go. I don't like being a test subject for pharmaceutical companies! I enjoy a good fever. It lets me know that my body is still functioning properly! Sip liquids every hour or so & you'll come out of it just fine!
Feed a cold (food & liquids)
Starve a fever (liquids only)

I think with "seniors", the doctor never knows if we are naturally cold or naturally hot, so it is sometimes hard to determine by how we are dressed if we are sick. But, the nose running should have been a good clue. I think doctor's want you to tell them, so they can make the correct diagnosis.

I don't think people really look at you including drs. It is out of habit they say what they do. I agree the 6th person who answered is a riot.

My doctor just looks at me and says something like, "sick, huh."And I say something like, "What gave you that clue?" but he's a friend also, so I can be a smart aleck and he is usually one back. But he is a good doctor and doesn't seem to ask foolish questions.

It is just a way to open the dialog between patient and physician. When I ask my patients how they feel, some of them say, "with my fingers, of course." (that would be the smart alec ones.)
