did you sign and agreement with whomever, that if anything happened to the money that you are "in charge" of come up missing, you will take full responsibility and replace it. Does anyone else have access to the money? What are the facts. If you know you really didn't take the money, make them work an investigation and prove that you took it. More than likely if you were the only one with access, then the fingers will automatically point to you. If you borrowed (the petty cash), admit to it and just pay it back and be done with it. But remember, you might still be fired after that.

Depends. If your employer has insurance, than you they would be covered. While they cannot make you pay for it, they can right you up for negligence and/or possibly fire you.
Sometimes the money is really there, its just an accounting error that has it missing. Have a co-worker go over your numbers before you have a heart-attack, which is not needed.

Hope this helped.
Good Luck!

You state that you were 'in charge of the money'. That implies responsibility on your part. It's your position to secure the funds so that none end up missing.

Yes
"I am in charge of that money" = I am responsible for that money

I'm assuming your talking about your work place, unless you signed something at the time of hiring, they can not legally take it from your check. If they do, call your labor board. All they can do is write you up or maybe terminate you..... and depending on the circumstance, you may be able to collect unemployment insurance.

My initial response is yes, however it depends on where the money is missing from and whatnot.
