that has happened to me twice now with my favorite band Anthrax...the first time Dan Spitz left the band his had two little girls and wanted to be with them...then he joined up again with Anthrax for the reunion tour a few years ago but he is mainly in the watch business and his new wife gave birth earlier this year to twin identical boys so he is out again :( It stings, but you get used to it and still hope for the best for the band...in my case they also have another new singer so I am hoping for the best but will wait atleast for the new album before commenting...

Personaly, I think it's hard to say how I would feel about it. If a member of one of my favorite bands decided to leave permanantly for family reasons, then I would understand why. If it has to do with a sick family member, a child who may be in some sort of trouble, or if it's marital problems of some kind back home, then it's understandable. I don't think there is no rule that says that you can't break away from a band if family reasons are involved & it's like there has to be a concession at some point saying that family comes first to all the members of the band.

It's a bummer, but you've got to respect it. I think that had a big part of Pavement breaking up (though it came down to Malkmus needing a new situation to work in there had been rumours that the break up was innevitible for "getting older want to do the family thing" type reasons) and I know it broke up Fugazi. When people get up to a certain age and start having more than the music that they need to focus on you can't really fault them for it. I mean, the touring and making records lifestyle seems like such a grind. How can you find fault with someone who doesn't want to miss watching their kids grow up? Not wanting to have to miss their wives and families for months at a time. In a lot of cases not only do I not blame them, I think it's the right thing to do.

It sucks though, losing a favorite band for any reason. Especially when you know they are more than capable of working together and making great music.

I've never experienced that scenario. At least I don't think I have...bear with the old woman here. :)

If someone legitimately leaves their band for family reasons, I wouldn't like it but I would respect it...their family should come first. Some people say those kinds of things to avoid telling the truth about why they are leaving, though...that's something completely different. Even though what they go through in their personal lives is really none of my business, I would be disappointed that they would throw that out there as an excuse.

Hey it happens, they have more important things to concentrate on like when Rayna left Coal Chamber to be a full time mom,it's a bummer but family is important and I respect their decision I dont feel ditched, you still have the CD's and who knows maybe down the road they'll reunite for a show or even a tour like with Rage and Zach or start side projects like Max with Soulfly, Dez with Devildriver, and Phil with Superjoint ya know?they're still people

Yes.I know how feel I'm little upset about Craig too but you can't really be mad.I respect them for leaving and making their own life.Maybe he will come back.I mean family first career second.Family will be there when you leave for the road and will be there when you get back form the road.A career won't last long especially if it's a music career.

Interestingly, when Fleetwood Mac re-formed for their 2003 album, it was Christine McVie who decided to leave, as she felt she was too old for the grulling tour schedule {she had spent a lot or the previous 30+ years on the road}.

Meanwhile, both Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood had become the fathers of young children {under 4}, yet were quite happy to set of on a world tour ~ I think for part of it their wives and kids came too.

It's sad but life goes on. Life changes and you hope the changes are for the best for them. I mean would you want to be stuck doing your job forever, never being allowed to alter the course just because other people didn't like it? Many leave and come back better than before because life has enriched them and their music shows that.

That hasn’t really happened to me. Still, if it did, I’d understand. Certain things should always take precedent over careers and family is one of them. Sure, it might be sad if you’re a fan for a particular band, but hey, life goes on and there are plenty of other good acts to listen to.
