FYI: Is it PEE-can or pe-CAHN? The dictionary includes both pronunciations. The way you say “pecan” depends on where you were raised. According to an on line poll by the National Pecan Shellers Association, the latter pronunciation won handily with more than 75 percent of the vote.
American Heritage Dictionary says this: http://media.ask.com/hm/ahd/pr/P0138900.wav

Me Pee-con is a nut that grows on a tree.
Pee can is what you keep under the bed so you don't have to run to the outhouse in the middle of the night.

Can't bring myself to say, pee-can or (especially) 'puck'n' as is custom in some Louisiana hinterlands.
It's pee-cahn. Guess I'll never do Mardi Gras in the Big Easy.
