I like a few GNR tunes, especially both versions of "You're Crazy"... and I like Slash' guitar-playing, but I honestly cannot stand Axl Rose or his singing... I think he is a colossal idiot.
... I pretty much despise any Aerosmith song since their comeback in 1986 or so... his voice is beyond shrill and irritating... and the songs are saccharine corp-hog smoking "rock"... they were better when they were drunk and stoned.
I also hate Dave Matthews voice... cannot stand listening to hardly any DMB songs.
Let the thumbs-downing begin!

Sadly, I gotta go with Getty Lee. I love Rush but I do feel a sense of tension while listening to one of the best rhythm sections in the world. Damn!
I realize Hendrix was never really acknowledged for his singing but there's something about his intoxicated style that seemed perfectly appropriate.
I like Styx stuff too but DeYoung's voice can wear a guy out. I can handle Shaw's vocal though.
Then there's Dylan. Yea, everyone knows, a great poet. To some people, some sort of God. But, just a little too much monotone whinnin for me.

Megadeth.
I do not like Dave's voice, it just sounds too "grungy" for my taste. I know they're really good musicians and they deserve a lot of credit but I have just never cared for them.
Also, I've always like Geddy Lee's voice. When I was younger I thought it was a girl and then I was watching Rush DVD's and realized that it wasn't a girl. I just think it's so unique and fun. I've never had a problem with it, but I guess I can see how some people could. Just like some people can't stand Robert Plant's voice... I love his voice too. Anywho, I'm rambling, good question =)

I loved the American progressive rock band 'Pavlovs Dog' back in the 70's. But David Surkamp's vocals really made it difficult, and took a fair bit of patience and determination on my part. Check out this video, and you'll see what I mean!

I guess his vocals had a tendency to grate on my nerves in the same way people are annoyed by Geddy Lee's vocals. For some strange reason I love Geddy's voice!
Darth, did you know that Bill Bruford played with Pavlov's Dog on their 2nd album?

They were also produced by a couple guys you might be familiar with; Murray Krugman and Sandy Pearlman of 'Blue Oyster Cult' fame.

This is a great question.
Several artists come to mind. I'm not sure if I can really explain why it is I don't really like them. They all are good musicians. They all have a couple songs I like. They all play styles of music that I'm really into. But for some reason, I'm just not feeling it.
The Black Crowes - Love Southern rock, but they sometimes sound a little too polished for me. Like they're trying too hard to get that sound.
Neil Young - I don't what it is with Young. I want to like his stuff so much. He has some really great songs. A lot of them start off great and then I get lost somewhere in the middle. I don't like that feeling. His vocals don't help much either. Some of my favorite bands, I can listen to, and just hear his influence all over their records. It almost sickens me I can't enjoy his stuff on another level.
The Velvet Underground - See explanation for Neil Young
I know I'm gonna get crucified for this one, but...
Prince - Great musician, great guitarist. I have much respect for his songwriting abilities, he could come up with some incredible arrangements. And don't get me wrong, there's a few of his songs I enjoy, but in the end, it just don't do it for me.

Great answers! I agree with the Stones, Rush, Neil Young, Prince, Dylan. I can even understand the Yes thing... Sometimes the musicianship can overcome the singer (Rush, Yes). Just don't get me started on Van Halen/David Lee Roth. He is just so annoying!!

I really wanted to love the band Hellyeah, but it's just not happening. I think all the members are talented enough, but something just isn't right about it. I am always excited to see Vinnie Paul playing with a band, he's got amazing drum skills, but when I listened to the whole album, it was just lacking. One of those things I had high hopes for, and was disappointed.

I don't love Jimi's voice, but I can forgive it because everything else is so great. I totally agree about Yes - that voice is enough to send me completely mad. I don't have specific modern egs, but a style I really hate is American boys and their whiny voices - they don't sound like men, they just sound like brats, and the music I find crappy too. Give me a deep throated roar any day.
In the '80's a friend of mine roadied for the Jesus and Mary Chain so naturally I wanted to like them, but couldn't. I just could not see what all the fuss was about.

Excellent question. I've tried to like Queens of the Stone Age but have found it impossible. Some of my favorite artists (Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan) have put time in with the band but no matter how much I want to, I cannot find anything redeeming about those guys. Even seeing them open for Nine Inch Nails made me like them less.
Then again, I thought Kyuss sucked too.

Great question Darth.
For me it's the Flaming Lips. The people who like what I like generally think they are really great. I know I appreciate what they do (their approach, the type of music). They work with people that I like and have a ton of respect with the artists that I am into, but there is just some intangible thing I can't get into with them. I tried too. I have like 3 of their records, and there are a couple tracks that I dig, but it just doesn't work for me.
