you need at least a laptop to get it working, some hotels require you to go through a web browser page first, after that in some cases you can just unplug ethernet from laptop and plug in to xbox and it would work. Or you could share the connection(after the laptop is logged in), but you would either need 2 ethernet ports on your laptop, or be receiving the wireless with your laptop and share connection with ethernet port on laptop, but you need a cross over cable to do this.

but even after all this, you may still have a problem with the hotel network's MTU setting being to low, so you would still be out of luck

Most hotels offering Internet access require you to go through a registration process, regardless of them charging or offering free access. This means that your XBox either needs to be able to surf, or need to have a computer connected to their network with the ability to surf. When either the computer or your XBox tries to bring up a public web site, you'll be directed to the hotel's web site to sign up.

If you've already signed up for the hotel's Internet service and still can't connect with your XBox, call the front desk and ask them for the phoen number for technical support for the Internet. They can connect you with the company that provides their Internet service. Explain to them that you need your XBox's MAC address pushed through on the server for Internet access.
