Marrying to stay together or to just break up is just ones notions and ones ethics or can be better termed as philosophies. Life is not just marriage and sex. Marriage is just a part of life. That is the basic difference between a man and an animal. Take for example a rabbit. Rabbit has no means of defense. The only reason it is yet surviving is because of its rate of reproduction. But, reproducing is not the purpose of a human beings life. As we explore each, we will be able to know what all is is in the world and where we stand. What else is yet left to be explored. A mosquito's life is just around the 20yards of radius of its birth. As human beings, we should know the purpose of life. As per Hindu litrature , it is said that there are 3 crores of species. Yet human being is unique. One should understand the purpose of life. Life is not just marriage and a partner.

Guilt should never keep two people together! It make take a day or a lifetime to find the best person. One thing I have learned both must be friends. We only get a few in life and the person you are or maybe with has to be one of them. Friends do tell one another everything good and bad and yes all the odd stuff we all do.

Human are:
'Intelligent animal'
'Social animal'
'Rational animal'
We should be proud to be Human. The mental capability is the strength. This condition has to be positive for a good and rational society. Our thoughts can make us act like animals or worse like devils (negative) or best as god-man. This mental state is limitless strength. Animals are only physical.
We should make most of this lucky creation. Humans are of six types or stages. In coma stage as stone-man and the highest God-man. This is achieved by self-development through controlling our sensuous mind using the intellect analytically.

In using the animal reference, there are some species that mate for life. We, as an animal species, try to emulate that aspect. Instead of it happening naturally, we use marriage to encapsulate this ideal. For some, though, it does not work. It can be for many reasons, but I think, in using the animal reference again, that it is because they are of the species that looks for multiple mates instead of the singular.
So in all, humans are still a complex animal where we are trying to find our own way.

Other animals bond for life.
Humans don't seem to have a very good track record in this department anyway.
Guilt should have nothing to do with it - staying together should either be for love or for the sake of any children you may have.

Some animals stay together and mate for life, so I don't think it's unnatural for humans to do so as well, or for them to want to do so. Do I think we'd behave a lot differently without the pressures and ideals set by churches and society- absolutely. Would I want to live in a world without these bittersweet contraints? No.

There are other animals in the world who remain married their entire lives without a "lifetime of guilt" most notably penguins and ravens. They mate with the same significant other for the rest of their lives.

Men are such dogs I don't know that I believe their actual nature is to be monogamous. Sorry dudes, but I watch you, and the majority of you still leer over women when the wife is not looking.
I believe women are more naturally monogamous than men are.
There are always exceptions, but this is what I witness from the majority.

There are many animals in the animal kingdom that mate for life. Couples mate for life for companionship, for shared responsibility of children, and for basic survival needs. Two birds build a nest easier than one. Not mating for life is more odd than doing so.
