I adamantly dislike Yes and No answers, and never give one. The threat of the death penalty has been shown time and again as a failure in reducing capital crimes. Plus, execution of innocent people is one of the things, as an American, I really hate about the great USofA.
Animals and some native North Americans have/had a much better solution: Lonely exile out of contact with other human beings, often resulting in suicide. Why? Because the herd instinct is almost as strong as the instinct for survival.

No. And it has already been proved that Capital Punishment does not deter crimes such as murder from happening. No one, but no one has the right to take another humans life. "Vengeance is Mine, saith the Lord", not Mr. Bush, Mr. Harper, the Lead Prosecutor or even me when my son was murdered! And any one who orders an execution and the person who pulls the switch are guilty of murder.
