I just finished doing a search on YA and there are a whole lot of posts about Dan Fogelberg's passing, and I actually read through most of them and the majority, like me, have been very touched by him over the years. I actually posted a message on YA last night around 11:00 after I read about it while I was online. I can't even imagine a world without him and any new music that I'm sure he would have written. Fortunately we will always have the music he did create while he was with us. My younger years are filled with memories of his incredible music. I don't really remember exactly how or where I "discovered" him - I like to think he discovered me. He so touched me. Even though I didn't know him personally, I feel like he knew me because the way he wrote was just the way I thought and felt. His kind of talent is almost non-existent anymore. As far as I'm concerned, he is one of the most gifted and talented artists of my generation. Such a beautiful human being. The world is less now. My heart is hurting.

I love Same Old Lang Syne...just was listening to it the other day :(
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, famed for the soaring vocals and elegant instrumentation of tunes such as "Longer" and "A Love Like This," died on Sunday, three years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He was 56.
"He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side," said a posting on his Web site (www.danfogelberg.com).
"His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."
Fogelberg, a native of Peoria, Illinois, broke into the music industry in the early 1970s, at a time when it was embracing introspective songwriting, or "soft rock," by such acts as the Eagles and America.
Fogelberg, who distinguished himself with his angelic vocals and lyrics that celebrated beauty and romance, hit his commercial and creative peak in 1981 with "The Innocent Age," which yielded three top-10 singles, "Hard to Say," "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the Band."
His most recent release, "Full Circle," came out in 2003. The following year, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, and urged men over the age of 50 to get tested for the disease.

I know, I saw it on Yahoo's homepage and it shocked me. I also love Same Old Lang Syne, and a few other songs. It's so sad when people like him have to die.

Such a loss......
My earliest memory was when I was a teenager, my buddy picked me up in his big ol' Olds Toranado......he popped in
an 8 track tape....it was the album Netherlands....the year was around 1977.....
I say, " Who is hell is this?"..he says "Dan Fogelberg!!"
I started laughing because I thought the name was funny.....I pressed eject and put Boston's tape in.....
Later on.....couple years....I started to appreciate Fogelberg...

His music is beautiful. "Longer" was a song in my wedding in 1981. My appreciation for the song and his music outlasted the marriage unfortunately. It's a shame he died so young, but I'm glad he's no longer in pain. Prayers go out for his family and loved ones. RIP

Dan was one of the great talents of our time. I will miss him.
He had a passion about his music that is unequaled in this day and age. He truly withstood the test of time. A measure of all great talents.

Yes, I heard about this morning from my mom. She actually played two of his songs. Great talent, lost yet again. Too young to die. August 13,1951-December 16, 2007. RIP Danny.
