No guarantee at all. You are taking a risk of losing all your money.
Call UPS or the USPS and see if you can use a COD service, but even then I am not sure you would be able to open the package and test the product.
Did you bid on ebay then get contacted outside the bidding, that is often used as way to set up a scam.
There are some buying services that hold your money until you approve of the product or return it, but that costs money and extra time and shipping.
Is this deal too good to be true?
As a sidenote, I think used laptops are not at all a good value. I shopped around and on ebay and based on the prices, speed, hard drive size, battery replacemen cost ($100-$250), etc. it just did not seem to make sense to me.

I would never use the Western Union method because you have very little to no recourse. Since it is a laptop, I would demand she ship it with a COD option which FedEx offers if DHL does not. This way you can pay with a money order or cashiers check and put a stop payment if the laptop isn't what you paid for or she shipped a box of rocks instead. I would be a little weary about this deal since she asked for half the money up front via Western Union.

Do NOT do this
Western Union is never a good way to pay for stuff.
It is the favorite payment method of scammers and cheats.
DHL is a reputable shipper. Perhaps they have a COD option.

Western Union, eh, that is what all the Nigerian scammers use.
Don't let your greed cloud your good judgment.
Why should you trust someone without a land phone, verifiable address?

Don't use western union to pay for anything you are considering buying on the internet.

Ask her to ship it COD. It might cost a little more, but you don't pay until you receive the package.
