Can anybody explain how they feel? This is my first child and I've been feeling a lot of pain on the lower part of my belly but have no idea how they are suppose to feel. I don't know if it's just my muscles expanding or if it could be labor pains. I'm due on the 30th of Jan. Can you please explain how the contractions feel?

I am due Jan. 29th also and having having a boy too. Congrats to you and the other answerer!! Anyway, I've been having the BH contractions off & on for about 3 weeks now. The period cramping is the mild version of them, however I've also been getting the ones that start in the lower back then move around. I had a really bad one this morning, baby moved (thank god) and it eased the pain. The more intense the BH get the more you'll be able to tell the difference. It feels different for everyone, but in my own experience, I get them wayyyy too far apart, different areas of my belly, and totally different times of the day.

Well, If you are not due for another month you are probably having braxton hicks contractions. They are little mini contractions that don't mean you are in labor. They just mean your body is preparing for labor. Contractions are different for all people. Some people have a higher tolerence for pain than others. Some contractions feel like really bad period cramps that come and go. (You wouldn't worry about them though untill they are consistant enough that you could time them and they are 15 minutes apart), Some contractions start in your lower back and move around to the front.

Hi your experienceing practise labour which is called branxton hicks excuse spelling. This is where you body starts preparing you for things to come. Your belly will tighten up and relax. You will know when your in labour and when your likley to go into labour hopefully a few days before you go into labour your cervical plug should go this should be a thick pinkish dishcharge then you should know that any day you will go in to labour. Labour can be from 1hr up to 72hrs. You will notice your belly getting tight and hard and should be slightley painfull you need to time how long the pains are and how regular they are. If you lucky you waters will break thats the best indercator your in labour if thay do go straight to hospital. If they don't keep timing your contraction thay should get more painfull and more frequent. When you about a regula 10mins -15mins call the hospital and let them know of your progess thay will instruct you from there. I have had one natural birth i could just about cope on gas and air th most painfull bit is the baby being born to me it felt like a really bad burning sensation enough to make me sqeal a bit.
Its always nerve recking when you don't know whats going to happen. there are plenty of pain relief options you may find you cope really well everybody is different in handling pain. Tell the midwifes what you want its your body your baby. But listen to them ok. I hope i havent scared you in anyway but theres no point in lieing if your going to ask it will hurt but its an amazing experience you will forget everything once you have your baby in your arms.

For me, contractions were a dull ache that comes and goes. It is a stretching feeling, similar to holding your mouth open wide for a long time.
