There are many economic reasons. Generally, the governments of these countries hope that the students will come back with a better education, and invest their time and money in the country that funded their education. When this happens, it can help the country develop more quickly into one with a solid, strong economy.

The reason the students are sent abroad is because, in general, the education that the students are able to receive locally are not as good as in developed nations, like the United States.

So they can get a better education. Developing countries are just that - developing and don't have very good education systems for lower and college.

Besides, they just might get it paid for by the stupid government of the other country.

Possibly so they can come home educated and help to further develope their home country.
