I think that Oedipus complex is very true for the mediterranean reality, as well as the opposite, the Andromache syndrome (from the mother's side).

I think defence mechanisms more, it is a natural response in situations, it may not always be handled right but it is natural, imagine if it wasn't everyone would feel so bad and if we don't support ourselves, often no-one will and everyone will be even sadder, Oedipus complex is like it says.. complex, it isn't true for everyone, but it is often a part of growing up, this would depend on how much trust you have for the father and how much you trust that he wouldn't be a competition in anyway, and wouldn't ever want to be

You gave two examples, and people seem to be choosing one or the other. Neither are the most verifiable concepts in psychology.
I think "mental disorder" is the most true, defensible and useful concept in psychology. People's minds are messed up, and it affects every aspect of their lives. Some people seem to say that mental disorders are not real because they're manifested in behavioral and self-reported emotional symptoms. But if you have to spend time around mentally ill people, you realize that there is truly something wrong.
Post-traumatic stress, depression and psychosis are some examples of what really does happen to people.

By meaning most true, are you referring to which term is most testable? I don't think there is a "true" psychological concept, because there is not one single concept that applies across all situations. However with that stated, there are many terms from cognitive psychology that are strong and apply to most situations. For example, did you know that 7 numbers is the accepted amount for the total number of digits in a group one can memorize with the least amount of errors? Hence why telephone numbers are 7 digits long in the US (area codes NOT included).
