Why do they try and intimidate you with those ridiculous warning adds? "You wouldn't steal a car.. etc"
They're trying to sell you a plastic disc for $30 and you're the criminal?

The big companies take the hit, but other than that, you're right. I heard a comedian who said, "I would never steal a car, but if my friend bought a new car and asked if I wanted to burn a copy...."
Ya. Who knows? Maybe it will bring the companies to their knees, but my guess is some people's large bonuses are just shrinking and they want it to stop.

DVD piracy (or CD piracy) isn't a "victimless" crime. It deprives the makers of the disc of their royalties, which are a return on the investment they made in producing it. If you think the asking price is too high, you can probably find used but legitimately produced copies online.

It seems like a victimless crime because the consequences are so spread out and costs each victim only tiny amount. They are not criminals for charging $30 for a DVD, that's just capitalism and it's what creates wealth and provides jobs.
