Are we de-evolving? The world is turning stupid!!?

Question

Once again i am just playing with an idea here, please do not take offence... i also realise that i have made some shockingly offensive assumptions so please bear with me.

Assumption #1 - People with a low IQ reproduce at a younger age (higher IQ people are too busy with jobs etc)
Assumption #2 - If two thick people have kids there is a good chance that their kids will be thick as well

If the thick are reproducing at a higher rate than brainy people does this mean that the human race is doomed to an ever decreasing IQ?

I wholeheartedly agree. For the past 50 years, the intelligent have been worrying about overpopulation while the stupid are continuing to have kids left and right. As such, the population curve has been slowly tilting towards the stupid side.

The government should start paying everyone with an IQ over 160 to start having kids and get our population back in order.

In the past, natural selection would have favored the more intelligent--those with lower IQs wouldn't have been smart enough to survive and would not have reproduced.
However, now we have protections in our society for those who aren't as intellectually gifted as others. I'm not saying this is bad; it's simply a fact. For example, school districts must mainstream special ed. kids and teach them as if they were going on to college, which they are not. Some colleges have open admissions. In the past, you just didn't get into a college if you didn't have the intellectual goods.
If people are getting stupider, I don't think it has to do with breeding or whatever. I think it's easier to get by and be stupid. I think inferior work is being accepted in schools and in the workplace. Despite what people may believe, spelling does count. Proper grammar does count. You do need to know some basic math. Those who say these things are not important are usually the ones who can't do them.
(And, btw, historically poor people have more children than rich. We can assume that the rich are better-educated in most cases. This is nothing new.)
Mike, interesting idea, but since 140 IQ is considered genius, maybe make that the cutoff. :-)
(You're going to get people screaming about elitism. This never seems to apply to sports, where nobody would suggest that anyone but the best gets to play in the pros or on the first-string team.)

These are very good questions.
1). I believe this to be true. For example, today with the shows "teen mom." ,"16 and pregnant," (the list could go on and on.), etc. So many teenage girls today desire to have children simply to be on some reality tv show, they do it for attention, they do it because they are dumb (or simply because their parents never teach them about birth control and the consequences of said topic, especially at such a young age). Many just have so many children so they can feed off the welfare that we (the working class) earn them. A vast majority of these people seem to never search for jobs.

I do feel as though the more intelligent (the few of them there are) do worry about overpopulation especially with the constantly declining resources, which will lead to more wars, eventually leading us to kill off our own species. So de-evolving is definitely an excellent way to describe this. It seems as though today, baboons are more intelligent than humans.

It is definitely sad, more people nowadays can tell you exactly what the Kardashians are doing at any given moment, however they cannot tell you anything about what is going on in the world (poverty, war, etc.)

I know a couple who are quite ugly and their child is the most beautiful looking child there is.
So who can say.
High IQ people very often have retarded children and low IQ people often have brainy kids.
Small people (midgets) can produce 6 foot children.
You can't generalise on these matters.
Probably the High IQ kids who get into trouble (pregnant) get abortions.
Like you I am only playing with some of my opinions. It is a massive subject.

Prior to 1964 intellectual advancement in the US was #1 in science & math, according to the stats.


Integration of our schools required a planed schedule of drumming down,
to slow the progress of whites,so that blacks could learn their way around

This was only supposed to happen for a year or two,but it became a trend
An easier way to teach which the courts and government would defend

Now integration is institutionalized and the results are as you see
White children must suffer a lifetime of loss,so blacks can get a degree

Most kids seem more intelligent then their parents. I think IQ tends to go up with every generation. Intelligence has more to do with upbringing, but some kids have their heads screwed on because they DON'T want to end up like their 'rents.

Yes, you're right. In nature, if something has an undesirable trait it dies off or won't be able to find a mate. In the human world, noone dies, and everyone finds a mate. So, every bad thing about people is passed onto the next generation.

This is a pre-existing theory, that our society goes against nature and protects the weak and inferior... thus reversing the process of survival of the fittest...

The intelligent tend to only have one or two children so can barely maintain their own population while the incompetent breed like rabbits (what else do they have to do?)...

Personally I could care less; I find your average person is incompetent as is, so how much worse could it get...

You are correct, but you missed off another important assumption. 2 ugly parents produce children who are ugly and stupid.

Bookish, how can you talk about the importance of spelling and grammar, while inventing words like "stupider"?

The children have an IQ nearer the norm than their parents regardless of the parents being above or below the norm.
