I agree. As a conservative person, I feel this should be out of the realm of government. If two adults aren't harming someone else, they should be given the same rights and privileges as others.

Sorry to say, but a plethora of our laws relate to marriage. From marriage, to divorce, to children, to wills, to taxes, to intestacy schemes, and on and on. Most are based on familial relationships, and there is a history of familial relationship and case law that goes back centuries. And since we got our law from England, the case law goes back to England's first.
Until recently, same sex marriages never occurred. Now that it has, it requires thinking outside the box, and you have centuries of case law to buck. Not to mention the unpopularity of it. Every place where it has been put to a vote, it has been voted down by a wide margin. So, it's hard to have it stand on its own merits because it doesn't even survive in a democracy.

Local laws or your particular situation may change the general rules. For a specific answer to your question you should consult legal counsel with whom you can discuss all the facts of your case. **

correct
but they do it anyways, call it activist courts (when conservatives dont like the rulings) or state laws run amok that the democrats complain of
the constution declares life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to EVERYONE
there is the line "all men are created equal" that applies also
so therefore allowing marriage for some poeple but not others is blatantly unconstitutional
in the early days of the Union same sex "arangements" were fairly commonplace and had legal standing, though they were not called "marriage" either

In many states, even many BLUE states like Michigan and Oregon, the people went to the polls and voted to support an amendment to their state constitutions to define marriage as strictly one man and one woman.
It's not just the government, but the majority of Americans who simply choose to keep the definition of marriage unchanged.

Because the people in government have a moral and ethical background that says that same sex marriage is wrong. And because the USA was created by people with similar beliefs, laws, rules and regulations all conincide with those morals and ethics.

Well for NJ I think they are getting involved for the money. It costs money to get a marriage license and lord knows they will implement some sort of union license on gay couples in NJ.
Look what they just did with the death penalty. The handful of murderers on death row just got a get out of death card dealt to them. I really feel sorry for those families of the murder victims. Lawmakers say that it costs more money to follow through with their death sentence than to keep them locked up for life. What a crock!!!

The government thinks they are absolute rulers. I don't believe they should regulate people's home lives. They are horrible and need to be replaced with people with brains.
Write to president@whitehouse.gov to voice your opinion. Also e-mail your senators, representatives, mayor, governor, etc. until you feel you've given them enough of your mind that they may be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

I think same sex couples are more than welcome to leave their respective countries and emigrate to a country that supports their choices.
