Yes, it is true. The Cleveland comic and host of "The Price is Right" was a United States Marine reserve.
According to an interview with ESPN, Carey credits the Marines for his work ethic. "The Marines gave me a really strong sense of discipline and a work ethic that kicks in at my job. All the extra hours I put into the show, I don't really mind. I think that attitude comes from my Marine days."
I assume that's where his trademark crew cut originated.
