Formatting is nothing more than "writing data to the disk".

You do that every time you use your computer.

There is absolutely no danger in formatting...... other than if you forget to backup your data before you do it.

The only other problem I've run into in "formatting" my drives is that some software manufacturers such as Symantec/Norton, and Diskeeper have given me problems with what they term "too many installations of the software" and then they don't allow me to reinstall it for more than 14 days of functionality. So be careful with this aspect.

Other than that.... absolutely no problem with what you're doing.

Hope this helps.
