1.) The Thing (1982) - Special effects was cutting edge in those days.

2.) Alien (1979) - Good mother of God!

3.) The Evil Dead (1981) - Enough said.

4.) The Exorcist (1973) - Who can forget this one?

5.) The Shining (1980) - One of Stephen King's Best work.

The worst one was some dodgy Vampire on Campus thing we hired once, it was so bad I turned it off as it descended into what can only be described a gay soft porn.

The scariest has to be The Grudge and Event Horizon as they are the only ones that I've really been scared by.

***SPOILER ALERT***

I have two:

It's extremely creepy. DREAMS - Akira Kurosawa. It's a collection of shorter movies. A young boy disobeys his mother and goes outside when it is raining and sunny at the same time - this is the time when the foxes have their weddings. He then is not allowed to return to his house. His mother gives him a knife to go kill himself so he doesn't bring danger to his family. The others are similarly creepy.

The second one is HOICHI THE EARLESS. This one is so horrifically terrifying I hate it! It is also a complilation of shorter movies. In one, a samurai divorces his devoted and true love wife in order to marry for money. Years later he returns to his original wife....... OMG.

In another, Hoichi is being plagued by ghosts, and priests try to save him by painting holy writing all over his body. They forget to paint his ears, and the ghosts come looking for Hoichi. The only part of him they can see is his ears so they take those.

The other short movies are equally horrific.

I have to admit that "The Ring" (us version) scared the poo outta me - its the bit where she comes crawling out of the tv... after that I had to pull the plug out of the tv, put a cover over it and, eventually, remove it from my room.

Also... 28 days later... i went to see it at the cinema with a friend after we missed a showing of a harry potter film, never heard of it and I couldnt sleep properly for a week - I now have a Zombie contingency plan in order wherever I am ... just in case (and the pub features heavily... shawn-of-the-dead-stylee)

IMO pretty much anything hollywood gets their hands on turns out to be naff. Original japanese horrors are much scarier. There was one I watched about this mum and daughter who lived in a flat haunted by a girl and puddles kept appearing everywhere, forgot its name now though!

Stephen King's it, it is so scary, well if you are scared of clowns. the bit where he is in the drain and talks to Georgie scared the life out of me. It is the only horror film to ever creep me out.

halloween is good but didnt scare me but is worth watching
