In a part of the world where we are all told to want more of what "life has to offer"; the car, the house, the personal computer etc.- it is easy to feel 'poor'.

In the global context (as a % of world population) we are all near the top when it comes to personal wealth, even if our bank accounts are always empty.

So do you feel rich? Do you ever feel grateful for the things you have?

It is human nature to want more, to have challenges, to overcome obstacles, etc. Yes, there are those that are very wealthy, and I always say to myself if I had that kind of money I wouldn't waste my life trying to make more of it. I'd just live on some tropical island, eat good, and play in the sun and surf.

However, being spiritually rich is what really matters as far as being happy is concerned (not being religious -- from my point of view religion and spirituality are opposites).

There are people that don't have anything and they are very happy people, much happier in my guess than, say, Bill Gates.

Do I feel rich? I am very grateful for the things I have. I feel poor in the sense that I am not a beachcomber happily making my living off of gathering puka shells. Governmental and/or political freedom would be a prerequisite of course, but the freedom I'm talking about is having the ability to do what you want to do when you want to do it. Unstructured time in my view is the key to wealth.

So, your point is well taken about the global context of the paradigm of the American Dream; and the irony is, here I am expressing a sense of dissatisfaction and wanting "more." To me "more" means more freedom, less trying to maintain the status quo. Unfortunately, if, say, my wife and I both quit our jobs and sold our house, the money would run out in a few years and we'd be homeless. As rich as the U.S. is, it is probably one of the worst places to be homeless in.

Of course when you live in America, a great country but full of consumerism of course it is easy to feel poor. It is easy to desire what you can't have. I guess the exposure to so many commercials and advertising whether we want to or not, makes us a little; what's it called when you just want to have more and more things. Anyway you become that. It is natural to want to have things but for me even though I myself don't have alot of money in my bank account I would consider myself pretty rich because I have at least experienced college, am physically and mentally healthy, have my family to support me when I feel like the world is against me, and have a roof over my head and food to at least keep me alive, and of course a decent computer, lol.

Money wise, I'm a sponging student living off my parents small income... but I do feel I'm rich in so many other ways. Rich in security (a roof over my head and food in my stomach). Rich in friendship from two amazing friends. Rich in love from all those who're close to me... and rich in knowledge and opportunities because I have access to an education, unlike many poor children in the world. Hope you feel rich too!

Yes I do feel rich and am so very grateful for ALL that I have. I am grateful that I woke up this morning and for being capable of sitting up, for being able to see and read, to be able to answer your question. I enjoy simplicity and almost all that we do and have is so taken for granted.
I have love and the basic necessities and enjoy life to the fullest. I do not need more.

I'm extremely grateful for what I have but I do not measure wealth by material possessions. I am wealthy because my family and I are happy, together, and healthy. I'm a in no way broke but it wouldn't matter to me if I was so long as I still had peace.

he or she is rich who have no need of anything in his/ her mind. I think richness is a matter of mind. say a rich man wants more and more so he is needy and poor too. On the other hand say a man wants nothing and satisfied with what he belongs to so he is rich.

Sometime I feel rich and gratefull when I see I have many things what several havn't.

I have always felt rich, even when compared to the people that live around me i am probably in the bottom 5%, I have always had enough, and that is good enough for me.
